Hiroshi AOYAMA

President, Aburatou Shoji Co., Ltd.
Vice President, National Biodiesel Fuel Promotion Council

Born in 1971, Hiroshi Aoyama began his career at Mitsubishi Oil Co., Ltd. (now ENEOS Corporation) before joining Yutou Shoji Co., Ltd., where he currently serves as President and Representative Director. In 2025, he will assume the position of Vice Chairman of the Japan Biodiesel Fuel Promotion Association.
Throughout his career, he has held a variety of leadership and advisory roles, including Director of the Hikone Junior Chamber, Founding Director of the Toyosato Community Development Committee (NPO), Chairman of the Taga Soseijuku Yoten Association (2003), Shiga Prefecture Environmental Promotion Officer and Global Warming Prevention Officer, Member of the Municipal Merger Council of Hikone City, Toyosato Town, Koura Town, and Taga Town (until 2005), and Member of the Ministry of the Environment’s Central Environment Council Committee (2003-2004). He also served as President of the Hikone City Ethics Corporation Association (2015-2018) and has been a Corporate Lecturer at the Institute of Ethics Research since 2020.

Kenta ARAI

Director, Hydrogen Trading Promotion, Industrial and Energy Policy Division, Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs, Tokyo Metropolitan Government

He joined the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 2009 and has served in the Bureau of Finance and the Bureau of Construction before being assigned to the Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs in 2018. There, he has been engaged in initiatives related to small and medium sized enterprise support, employment and labor measures, and responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since April 2024, he has held his current position, leading efforts to establish a hydrogen exchange as announced by Governor Koike at COP28. In December 2024, he implemented the world’s first “Green Hydrogen Trial Trading” in a market based format.

Naoya ISHIDA

Manager, Liquid Biomass Team & Green Carbon Team, Renewable Energy Section, Energy Department II, Hanwa Co., Ltd.

Joined Hanwa Corporation in 2007. Worked in the Energy Division, engaged in the trading of marine fuels and biomass fuels. Appointed manager of the New Energy Division in 2023. Engaged in trading solid fuels for biomass power plants. Launched the Liquid Biofuel Team, a cross-organizational team within the Energy Division, in April 2024, advancing projects such as trading biofuel feedstocks and creating new feedstocks. Also concurrently serves as manager of the Green Carbon Team, which handles carbon products for the steel and energy industries.

Prior to founding ASAFA and Studio28, he held positions including President of Airbus Korea. He also served as a member of the Aerospace Committee of the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea. As General Manager of Airbus aircraft sales office in Asia, he sold hundreds of aircraft to the airlines in the region.
He holds a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from ISAE-Supaero (France), and post graduate diplomas from ESSEC Business School (France) and Thunderbird School of Global Management (USA). He is a graduate of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (UK) and the United Nations System Staff College.

Yoshihiko OMORI

With nearly 35 years of experience in the private energy sector, he has been engaged in oil trading, overseas business development, and policy advocacy. Since 2020, he has served in his current role, specializing in the analysis of domestic and international developments and policy trends in clean energy. He has also served as a committee member for various research projects commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), as Director of the LPG Center, and as a committee member of the New Energy Foundation. His publications include The Textbook for “Comprehensive Guide to Understanding the Structure and Business of the Energy Industry”, Gijutsu-Hyoronsha, 2023 , roundtable articles in PETROTECH, and papers on next-generation liquid fuels. He has also spoken at numerous domestic and international symposia, including events organized by the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA) and other international conferences.

Atsushi OKUDA

Born in 1974. Mr. Atsushi Okuda earned his Master’s degree in Architecture from the School of Creative Scienceand Engineering at Waseda University in March 2000. He joined Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. in April of the same year,where he worked in design and safety operations, followed by positions in product development and researchrelated to kitchen equipment and facilities.He later served as Team Leader of Recruitment in the Human Resources Development Office and Manager of theCommercial Solutions Technology Group.Since 2022, he has been with The Japan Gas Association as Manager of the Energy and Environment Group in the Planning Department. He also serves as Director of the Carbon Neutral Promotion Center.In his current role, he is responsible for developing strategies and responding to energy policies aimed at achieving carbon neutrality in the city gas industry.

Mistuharu OGUMA

Engaged in research and development focused on the practical application and standardization of new fuel utilization systems, as well as the development of low-emission, high-efficiency engines.

Tetsuo KAGAYA

Head of Project Finance, ECA & Trade Finance, MUFG Bank, Ltd.

He leads MUFG’s project finance and ECA/Trade finance in Japan. With over 17 years of experience in structured finance, primarily focused on project finance, he has been serving in his current role since 2023. His career includes significant stints in Tokyo and Australia, where he has been involved in structuring and advising on both domestic and international project finance deals.He also took a leading role in MUFG’s global project finance, overseeing planning, distribution, and invest or relations. This has provided him with extensive experience and a proven track record in managing projects across various sectors, including power, natural resources, and infrastructure, utilizing a multifaceted approach.Recently, he has been focusing on promoting energy transition and renewable energy, advancing new fuel projects such as hydrogen, ammonia, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Kazunori KASAI

Since July 2023, He has served as Chief Optimization Officer (COPTO) at JERA, overseeing the optimization department responsible for the profit and loss of domestic thermal power generation operations. He also supervises multiple trading companies engaged in fuel and electricity.He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of JERA Global Markets, where he previously served as CEO from 2019 to 2023, establishing a profitable global trading business.
With over 30 years of experience in energy trading and the power industry, he began his career in the fuel division of Chubu Electric Power, where he managed various energy sources, including coal and LNG. He held several leadership roles within Chubu Electric Power, including Director and General Manager of Chubu Energy Trading. In 2008, he established and led the operations of a coal trading joint venture between Chubu Electric Power and EDF Trading, which later evolved into JERA Global Markets.In 2015, he was appointed General Manager of the Planning and Optimization Department at JERA, where he successfully led the negotiation team for the integration of JERA and EDF Trading’s coal and LNG trading operations into JERA Global Markets. He has also served as General Manager of Optimisation in the Corporate Planning Division and the Sales, Procurement and Fuel Business Division at JERA.
He holds a Bachelor of Law from the University of Tokyo and an MBA from the Owen Graduate School of Management, Vanderbilt University.

Goichi KAWASHIMA

Born in 1976.Completed the master’s program at Tohoku University’s Graduate School of Science in 2001.Worked at Ebara Corporation in large pump planning and design, new business development in the energy and waste sectors, at Hakuhodo served as the secretariat for a national movement against global warming, worked as an environmental consultant as a sole proprietor, and at the Cabinet Office of Japan government and in 2013, joining in Shizen Energy Inc.
Engaged in the development of solar power generation projects, launched a retail electricity business and a digital business, and currently in charge of creating new businesses.

Ren KAWAMURA

Born in 1974. He began his career in 1997 at Mitsui Bussan Futures Inc. as a commodities broker. He subsequently held positions at Mitsubishi Corporation Futures Inc., Meiji Bussan Co., Ltd., and Noble Energy Japan Ltd., engaging in futures trading, fund management, and petroleum product trading. He joined erex Co., Ltd. in 2016, was appointed General Manager of the Energy Market Department in 2020, and became Executive Officer in 2022. Since 2025, he has served in his current position. His area of expertise is intermediary trading of energy products.

Takeo KIKKAWA

Born in 1951. Graduated from the Faculty of Economics, The University of Tokyo. Completed coursework in the doctoral program at the Graduate School of Economics, The University of Tokyo, and holds a Ph.D. in Economics. Served as Associate Professor at Aoyama Gakuin University, Professor at The University of Tokyo, Professor at the Graduate School of Hitotsubashi University, Professor at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of Science, and Professor at the Graduate School of International University. Appointed to the current position in 2023. Holds the titles of Professor Emeritus at The University of Tokyo and Hitotsubashi University.

He joined Nittsu Shoji Co., Ltd. in 1993 and was engaged in marine fuel sales at the Tokyo Branch Petroleum Department. In 2018, he was appointed Deputy General Manager of the Head Office Petroleum Department (Marine & Procurement), overseeing fuel procurement for the entire group. In 2022, he became General Manager of the Sales Division, Energy Solutions.
He has been involved in various decarbonization projects, including reducing hydrogen supply costs using existing infrastructure and establishing supply schemes for marine biofuels. In recent years, he has participated in demonstration projects for supplying decarbonized fuels to vessels at Kawasaki Port and initiatives supporting the commercialization of decarbonized fuel utilization.

Mitsuhiro KOHARA

He has extensive experience in LNG (liquefied natural gas) engineering and technology development, and in 2017 was appointed Manager of the Business Promotion Team, Engineering Department, Osaka Gas. In 2020, he became Manager of the Planning Team, Corporate Planning Division, Daigas Gas and Power Solution Co., Ltd. In 2022, he served as Manager of the International Standards and Certification Group, Planning Department, Japan Gas Association. Since 2025, he has held his current position. His personal interest is kendo, in which he holds the rank of Kyoshi 7-dan (licensed instructor, seventh dan).

Motohiro KONDO

Professor, Research Institute of Technology, Aichi Institute of Technology

He joined Toyota Motor Corporation in 1987. During his tenure, he held key positions including Manager of the Plant Engineering Department, General Manager of the Production Planning Division, General Manager of the Corporate Planning Division, General Manager of the No.1 Toyota Planning Division, and General Manager of the Office of the Vice President for Corporate Strategy. He has extensive experience in business strategy related to resources, energy, chemicals, and environmental management both in Japan and overseas. Since 2020, Professor Kondo has been with the Research Institute of Technology at Aichi Institute of Technology, where he engages in research and development, technical and policy support, and educational initiatives aimed at achieving a decarbonized and circular society society through industry-academia and regional collaboration. He has also served as a member of several government committees, including the Subcommittee on Decarbonized Fuel Policy and the Subcommittee on Carbon Management of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s Advisory Committee for Natural Resources and Energy, as well as the Cabinet Office’s National Resilience Promotion Council. His awards include the Chemical Engineering Society of Japan Technology Award, the Ichimura Industrial Award for Global Environmental Protection, and the Honda Prize for Recycling Technology Development.

Makoto SAKAI

Dr. Byoung-In SANG

Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, Hanyang University

He is Professor of Chemical Engineering at Hanyang University and Director of Hanyang’s Clean-Energy Research Institute and Post-Plastic Graduate Program. Trained at Tokyo Institute of Technology (Ph.D., 2001) and Northwestern University (Postdoc, 2001-2003), he served at KIST from 2003, becoming Principal Research Scientist in 2008, and joined Hanyang faculty in 2011. His research at the interface of industrial and environmental biotechnology spans biodegradation, bio-based materials, and carbon-circular processes. He has authored 140+ peer-reviewed papers, holds 60+ patents, and has 7,600+ citations (h-index 44; i10-index 102). Nationally, he led Korea’s Bio- and Waste-Energy R&D Program (MOTIE, 2014-2016) and, since 2017, serves on the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology. He also chairs planning for the national SAF R&D initiative and contributes to committees at the National Research Foundation and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. He is associate editor for multiple journals and invited speaker and program chair.

Masato SHIOMI

Secretary General, UCO JAPAN (Japan National Federation of Oil Recycling Business Cooperatives)

Born in 1979. After working for a major industrial waste management company in Tokyo, as a management consultant, in the construction industry, and as an advisor to a new energy venture, he joined UCO JAPAN in 2020 as a dedicated manager for government-commissioned projects and was appointed Secretary General in 2022.
Currently, based on UCO JAPAN’s principles of “proper disposal,” “domestic circulation,” and “local production for local consumption” of used cooking oil, he is engaged in developing the Used Cooking Oil Traceability Management System (UTMS), promoting household collection of used cooking oil, and exploring the fuel utilization of unused oil and fat resources. He leads the UCO JAPAN Secretariat, which promotes balanced and sustainable utilization of domestically circulated used cooking oil.

Yoichi SHISHIDO

General Manager, International Corporate Department, Okachi & Co., Ltd.

Graduated from the Faculty of Commerce, Doshisha University in 1996.
For nearly 30 years, he has been engaged in corporate sales and domestic trading of petroleum products, building a strong customer base and achieving a market share of around 10% in domestic wholesale trading and 50-70% in physical deliveries on the petroleum futures market.
Since 2023, he has been leveraging his extensive practical expertise gained through trading to train numerous companies in trading strategies while also contributing to the development of Japan’s futures market.

Rayendra SIDIK

Vice President, Deputy of Finance and Commercialization, SKK Migas

He currently works for SKK Migas as Vice President for Deputy of Finance and Commercialization, his current role including providing expert-level analysis to support decision making, acting as a subject-matter expert in natural gas business, and also advising senior leaders on complex issues. With more than 15 years in the organization, his experience mostly related to business development and commercial arrangement. He uses that expertise to assist oil and gas company monetizing their reserve and developing commercial agreement with buyer.
By focusing on developing business based on ‘fair and equal’ concept, he has been able to put the degrees earned at University of Trisakti and California State University, Los Angeles to good use. Over the years, his strengths at SKK Migas has led him to complete several gas fields monetization projects including Sungai Kenawang, Gajah Baru, TSB, et cetera. In negotiating commercial agreement in LNG, his experience including completion of Western Buyer LNG contract amendmend, LNG price-review with China buyer, monetizing Tangguh Train 3, and developing several spot sales and mid-term LNG sales agreement. Currently he is working heavily to develop market for small-scale LNG retail and find a solution to monetize stranded gas field.
If he is not in the negotiation table or meeting room, he can be found riding his road bike, jogging, golfing or traveling to new places.

Mina SEKIGUCHI

Managing Partner, Resonancia

Born in Tokyo, Japan. After graduating from university, she earned an MBA from the University of Texas at Arlington and joined Arthur Andersen’s Dallas office. She returned to Japan in 1997 and worked at Arthur Andersen Tokyo (now KPMG Azusa Audit Corporation), where she was involved in M&A transactions and handled numerous energy and infrastructure projects. From 2012, she served as Head of the Energy & Infrastructure Sector at KPMG Japan, and from 2013 also oversaw the Energy Sector for the Asia-Pacific region. In 2022, she founded Resonancia and became its Managing Partner.

Yasushi SEKINE

Professor, Department of Applied Chemistry

He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tokyo in 1993 and earned his Ph.D. from the same university in 1998. After serving as a Research Associate at the University of Tokyo, he joined Waseda University in 2001 and held various academic positions before being appointed to his current position in 2012. He has served on numerous governmental advisory councils and committees. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). His awards include the Chemical Society of Japan Award for Academic Achievements in 2019 and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award for Science and Technology in 2020. His research specializes in hydrogen, ammonia, and renewable energy-derived fuels.

Bob TAKAI

Worked for Sumitomo Corporation in commodities, natural resources, financial markets, geopolitical research and government affairs areas for 40 years. After leaving Sumitomo, engaged in building electricity derivatives market in Japan at EEX Group in Tokyo.

Makoto TAKAGI

He has been leading FX / interest rates sales and trading business since 2023. After earning Bachelor of Laws from The University of Tokyo and joining The Mitsubishi Bank, Ltd. (current MUFG Bank, Ltd.), Makoto has served as MD, Head of Institutional Client Business Strategy Office (2018), MD, Head of CFO Office (2020), MD, Head of Financial Accounting Office (2021). By leveraging MUFG’s creditworthiness, MUFG Bank joined Japan power futures trade execution and clearing services in 2024 to enhance price hedging functions in the overall power trading market.

Nobuo TANAKA

Born in 1950, he graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tokyo and subsequently joined the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. He earned an MBA in the United States. After serving as Director of the Science, Technology and Industry Directorate at the OECD and Minister-Counselor at the Japanese Embassy in the United States, he was appointed Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA). Since then, he has held positions including Special Advisor at the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ), Professor at the University of Tokyo, Chairperson of the ICEF Steering Committee, and Chairman of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation. He is currently the CEO of Tanaka Global Co., Ltd.

Junichi TANINAKA

A leading specialist in the marine fuel sector, operating at the forefront of the global bunker market. Since joining Hanwa Co., Ltd. in 2018, he has established himself as a versatile expert in marine fuel trading, seamlessly managing the entire value chain from strategic proposals to complex international negotiations with shipping companies worldwide.
With an extensive network spanning global bunker suppliers across multiple continents, he has consistently delivered optimal fuel procurement strategies that balance cost-efficiency with reliability. His expertise extends beyond traditional fossil fuels to encompass the rapidly evolving bio-bunker market, where he pioneers sustainable fuel solutions from feedstock sourcing to final product delivery.
As the maritime industry navigates its decarbonization journey, he stands at the intersection of traditional energy trading and sustainable innovation, driving the green transformation of global shipping through comprehensive alternative fuel strategies.

Capt. Rahul CHOUDHURI

Capt. Rahul Choudhuri is President of Strategic Partnerships at VPS (Veritas Petroleum Services) and is based in Singapore. At VPS, a global leader in fuel testing, advisory, and decarbonization services, he supports clients in achieving sustainable operations, asset protection, preventive maintenance, and compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.
He is also actively involved in major international and national industry associations. He has served as Chair of the Singapore Technical Committee for Bunkering under the Standards Development Organization (SDO@SCIC), Chair of the National Mirror Committee for Fuel Quality Specifications, and Chair of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) Asia Board. In addition, he has held leadership roles within the Singapore Shipping Association and contributed to its International and Technical Committees, as well as the Intertanko Bunker Sub-Committee.

Yasumasa TSUGANE

After graduating from the Faculty of Economics at Kokugakuin University, He joined Tokyo Tanshi Co., Ltd. He has extensive experience in commodity trading, with overseas assignments in London and New York.
Since 1999, he has been engaged in emissions trading under the Kyoto Protocol, and since 2010, in addition to Kyoto Credits, he has been involved in trading under the UK and EU Emissions Trading Schemes. He has also served as a committee member contributing to the design and development of Japan’s domestic systems and legislation, accumulating extensive expertise in the field of environmental business.
Since 2015, he has been involved in the establishment and marketing of Japan’s electricity futures market, contributing to its development from the early stages.

Toshihiro TOKUNAN

Senior Manager, Division of Business Development, Tokyo Commodity Exchange, INC.

After graduating from the Faculty of Economics at Kyoto University in 2006, he began his career at The Shoko Chukin Bank, where he was responsible for corporate lending and sales of foreign exchange derivatives. In 2008, he joined Petroleum Association of Japan, engaging in a wide range of energy policy matters, including electricity and gas market liberalization and biofuels, as well as industry-wide risk management and cybersecurity initiatives. In 2024, he joined Japan Exchange Group, Inc. (JPX) and currently works at Tokyo Commodity Exchange, Inc. (TOCOM), focusing on promoting the derivatives market, particularly electricity futures.

Hitomi TOMINAGA

Masataka NAKAI

Director & General Manager, BCP Division, Japan BCP Co., Ltd.

Born in 1960 in Osaka Prefecture. During the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, he served as the leader of disaster relief operations at Shuwa Co., Ltd., leading a convoy of nine fuel tank trucks from Osaka to the coastal areas of Iwate Prefecture. For three months, he was engaged mainly in supplying fuel to disaster sites and evacuation centers.
After establishing Japan BCP Co., Ltd. in 2017, he assumed his current position. Drawing on his extensive firsthand experience in disaster recovery, he has developed an emergency response network for petroleum fuel supply during disasters.

Yusuke NAGAI

Manager, Sustainability Consulting Division 1, Mizuho Research & Technologies, Ltd.

For nearly 20 years, engaged in policy support and corporate consulting in the fields of decarbonization and low-carbon development. In particular, has long provided overseas business development support related to carbon credits and environmental attributes for energy companies and firms with low-carbon technologies, as well as assistance in the creation, procurement, and usage of such credits and attributes. In addition, has conducted extensive studies and advisory work on domestic and international climate policies, technologies, and finance. Has co-authored several publications on carbon credit business.

Keisuke NAKAJIMA

Tetsuo HAMAMOTO

He graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Tokyo in 1976 and received his Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Agricultural Science in 1980. In the same year, he joined the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN) as a Research Scientist in the Laboratory of Microbial Ecology, while also serving as a Visiting Research Fellow at Michigan State University and the University of California. In 1995, he became a Specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo (U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Agriculture), facilitating scientific and agricultural information exchange between Japan and the United States. In 2006, he worked at Monsanto Japan, engaging in public communication on genetically modified crops. Since 2008, he has served as the Japan Representative of the U.S. Grains Council (to be renamed the U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council in 2025), promoting the use of U.S. feed grains and bioethanol in the Japanese market.

Served as Chief Distinguished Engineer at Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation. Later appointed as Program Manager of the Cabinet Office’s ImPACT program titled “Reduction and Resource Recycling of High-Level Radioactive Wastes through Nuclear Transmutation.” Served as the 36th President of the Atomic Energy Society of Japan (2014-2015), as a Decontamination Advisor for Fukushima Prefecture, and as a part-time lecturer at Tokyo Institute of Technology.

Takumi MATSUO

From 2014 to 2015, served as Auditor and Managing Director of Iwatani Marui Gas Co., Ltd., and in 2015 was appointed General Manager of Iwatani Gas Appliances (Zhuhai) Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of portable gas stoves and cylinders in China. In 2018, seconded to the Japan LP Gas Association as Leader of the Planning Group. After retiring from Iwatani Corporation in March 2023, he was appointed Special Research Officer at the Japan Green LP Gas Promotion Association, a position he currently holds.

Yukiko MORISHITA

After graduating from the Department of Economics, Faculty of Humanities, Shizuoka University in 1991, she joined Chubu Electric Power Company. She has held a variety of key positions, primarily in the Human Resources Division, including a secondment to the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan for Expo 2005 Aichi and serving as Head of the Women’s Empowerment Office. From 2020, she led overseas operations as Director of the Washington Office. She was appointed General Manager of the Global Business Division in 2024 and became an Executive Officer in 2025.

Masayuki YANAGI

Joined Kajima Corporation in 1985. Since joining the company, he has been engaged in environmental-related work at the Yokohama Branch, the Technical Research Institute, and the Civil Engineering Management Division. In 2014, he was transferred to the Environmental Division, where he has focused on diesel fuel alternatives.
In external activities, he has served as a member of the Global Warming Countermeasures Subcommittee of the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors (JFCC) and the Global Environment Committee of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE).
He began exploring the use of diesel fuel alternatives in construction projects around 2006, when Kajima’s group company, Urban Environmental Engineering Co., Ltd., started producing FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester). In 2014, he received the JSCE Environmental Award for his contributions to CO2 emission reduction and a recycling-oriented society through the practical use of biodiesel fuel at construction sites. In 2015, he authored the Guidelines for the Use of Diesel Fuel Alternatives in Construction Projects published by JFCC, which was revised to its fifth edition in July 2025.

Takafumi YANAGISAWA

After graduating from the College of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo in 2009, the speaker joined Mitsui & Co., Ltd., where they were engaged in investment and marketing of LNG, uranium, and coal projects until 2021. In the same year, they joined the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ). While at IEEJ, they conducted research on the relationship between government and industry in Japan’s resource diplomacy at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo, and earned a Ph.D. in 2022. Their areas of expertise include international energy affairs?particularly LNG?and Japan’s resource and energy policy. Their major publication is ‘’Contemporary Japan’s Energy Resource Diplomacy’’ (Fuyo Shobo Publishing, January 2024).

Kenichiro YAMAMOTO

After working for a major trading company, he joined ClassNK in 2016. He has been engaged in the development and operation of GHG certification schemes and currently serves as Senior Manager of the GHG Department, Environment Division.
In the maritime sector, he is responsible for GHG verification and calculation services under the EU MRV Regulation (a regional EU regulation for monitoring, reporting, and verification of CO2 emissions from ships). Domestically in Japan, he develops ClassNK’s certification business under the J-Credit Scheme and is also involved in certification projects under the GX League initiative.
In the aviation sector, he promotes ClassNK’s certification business under the CORSIA scheme (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation), developed by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), a UN specialized agency. He also advances ClassNK’s Sustainability Certification Scheme (ClassNK SCS), which was the third certification scheme in the world recognized by ICAO. The scheme conducts sustainability and life cycle assessment (LCA) certifications for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), contributing to decarbonization in the aviation sector through third-party certification activities.

Michael WILD

Chairman, International Biomass Torrefaction and Carbonization Council (IBTC)

Michael Wild is an economist and engineer with over 35 years of leadership in renewable energy, dedicated entirely to bioenergy. A pioneer in the field, he has shaped the industry with innovations ranging from biomass-based district heating and coal-to-biomass conversions in Europe to launching the world’s first internet-based biomass trading platform (ABEX) in 1999. He initiated the earliest intercontinental biomass supply chains, including the very first PKS shipment from Indonesia to Europe in 2003, later expanding to Japan. Michael co-developed the first torrefaction technology for Andritz/Polytechnik and founded the International Biomass Torrefaction and Carbonisation Council (IBTC), where he has been serving as (re)elected president since its creation. He also advises companies and organizations worldwide.
